4 Terms and abbreviations

The definitions and abbreviations defined in version 4.3.1 of Part 1 of the ERN standard also apply to this part of the ERN standard. Some of the defined terms in Part 1 of the ERN standard, appear in the text of this part of the ERN standard in lower case, for readability. The terms below will appear in upper case because they are “combined” terms that would not appear in a normal dictionary.

Primary Resource

A resource that is the main resource of a release. A change in a Primary Resource typically requires a new release identifier, whereas a change in a Secondary Resource does not. All resources that are referenced in a ReleaseResourceReference composite in a NewReleaseMessage are Primary Resources for that release.

Release Profile

A set of rules governing the data that must be provided (and data that may not be provided) for specific types of releases when being communicated using the ERN standard.

Secondary Resource

A resource that is not the main resource of a release. It supports the Primary Resources (examples are lyrics, cover art, etc). A change in a Primary Resource typically requires a new release identifier, whereas a change in a Secondary Resource does not. All resources that are referenced in a LinkedReleaseResourceReference composite in a NewReleaseMessage are Secondary Resources for that release.
